As we continue our series The Annointed One: The Royal Psalms, you might have noticed we have incorporated extra Scripture readings throughout our Sunday services, as well as our Bible reading for the sermon. These additional scriptures are chosen as they thematically speak about the King, the Kingdom or Christ as King and Ruler.
One of our readings this Sunday is 1 Kings 3:5-15 where God appears to newly established King Solomon in a dream, tells Solomon to "ask for whatever you want me to give you" v5. Solomon, with all the power, status and entitlement of a King doesn't seek anything for himself, or further glory or fame but in humility requests "a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right & wrong" v9.
Solomon depends on God to help him use his Kingly authority in a way that benefits God's people and continues God's plan on earth. His desire for wisdom and discernment for the betterment of God's kingdom is something we can all emulate. Of all the things we want, let's be people who seek to serve God and God's people and to prioritise that in our lives, rather than being those who serve our own needs and gratify our own desires first. Let's be those who ask God for wisdom and discernment in order that we might serve God and his people more effectively. James 1:5 encourages us to ask as King Solomon did "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Praying for you this week, and I hope to see you onsite or online this Sunday,
