Each morning I read the verse of the day on the YouVersion Bible app. This morning’s verse was from 1 Corinthians 15:58,

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.”

I was struck by the phrase “Let nothing move you”. On the one hand, remaining resolute and committed to the “labour in the Lord” is a virtue. We all know that the only way to accomplish anything of value is to stick with it. On the other hand, remaining flexible and responsive to the movement of the Holy Spirit is certainly important to seeing the “work of the Lord” come to pass. Intractability is as subversive to the mission we have been given as a lack of resolve.

As we head into 2023 and the work we believe the Lord has invited us into let us seek to stand firm without becoming stiff; always following Jesus wherever he leads.
